About this dish

Beef stroganoff takes its name from the Stroganovs, one of the great merchant families of imperial Russia. Beef is sautéed with mushrooms and onions and brought together in a sour cream sauce — one of the few Russian dishes known far beyond Russia.

At home it is most often eaten with buckwheat or mashed potato. Both are on the list of sides, along with rice, pasta and draniki.
